Day trips

Buffalo Swamp / Cat head Creek: 3-4 hrs: An easy float on a large tidal creek. The creeks upper reach is in an area that contains freshwater species of plants and animals as well as salt loving ones. Its beauty and diversity will impress most nature enthusiasts. The lower section becomes more brackish and changes into a classic salt marsh with a different kind of beauty. With only one "turn", this creek is perfect for the inexperienced paddler while still allowing the feel of being in the wilderness.

May Hall Creek: 3-4 hrs Salt marsh is the predominant vista on this creek . With an occasional island hammock, this trip allows you to experience the salt marsh with the tides, winds and wildlife. An easy paddle but does require some paddling against the tide for a short distance, approximately 30 / 45 minutes.

Altamaha River/Lewis Creek: 5-6 hrs. Starting on the Altamaha River and ending in the tidal marsh, this day trip covers the most ecosystems and has the most variety of any day trip. The options include Lewis Island and Creek , Buzzard Creek and the Ancient Cypress as well as Tidal Dunes, High Bluffs and a tramendus variety of wildlife. Moderate paddling required for at least 4-6 hours. Paddling in sheltered areas for most of the trip, Winds are a relative minor constraint.

Queen Island: 4-6 hrs. Starting in Darien ( 2 hrs longer) or "Blue N Hall" landing, taking the tide out past a maze of marsh islands while enjoying the solitude of the living marsh and eventually the "vast ocean" in front of you. The return trip by one several tidal rivers allows for a memorable trip with sighting of shore and marsh birds, osprey, bald eagle, wood stork, alligators, racoon, dolphin, mink, otter and more. (Winds a major variable)

The Altamaha River: 1 to 30 days is comprised of hundreds of miles of free flowing water as well as picturesque tributaries such as the Ohoopee River and Beards Creek . Extended trips of days or weeks can be arranged. ( Great 50 milers for the Boy Scouts )
